Brian Bartlett (1953-     ) grew up in New Brunswick, lived for 15 years in Montreal, and has been a Halifax resident since 1990. His publications include 7 collections and 7 chapbooks of poetry, 3 books of nature writing, and a compilation of his prose on poetry. As an editor, he has published 8 books, including three volumes in the Porcupine's Quill's "Essential" series of selected poems (by James Reaney, Robert Gibbs, Dorothy Roberts), the Wilfred Laurier press selection of Don Domanski, a gathering of prose about Don McKay (Guernica), an anthology of poems about childhood (Frog Hollow Press), Bright with Invisible History: A William Bauer Reader  (Chapel Street Editions), and Collected Poems of Alden Nowlan (icehouse poetry/Goose Lane). After 28 years full-time at Saint Mary's University teaching Creative Writing and various fields of literature, Bartlett retired from teaching in 2018, and he remains active as a poet, prose-writer and editor. Karen Dahl, his wife, is a senior manager in the Halifax Regional Library system; their chlldren, Josh and Laura, were born in 1997 and 2000.
